Fall 2009 Season - West Side Lightning U14 Girls
The Lightning have been representing our West Side Youth Soccer Club in Division 1 of the Pioneer Valley since U9. These girls represented the WSYSC and the Town of West Springfield as Great Competitors who always showed Good Sportsmanship and "Fair Play". If you were to look up the definition of TEAM in the dictionary you could put the Lightnings picture next to it. The girls always played together as a team.
As for our fall season, the Lightning got off to a slow start because of several injuries. Although we played many of these games evenly we came up short on the scoreboard. As the season progressed and our injuries healed we played much better and we carried much of the play. Unfortunately we were unable to over come the slow start to make the playoffs. Some of the key highlights of the season were: a convincing win under the lights at Hopkins Academy, an exciting hard fought win at Cold Spring (3-2), and a narrow defeat to perrenial powerhouse Ludlow 2-1. At the end of the season the weather did not cooperate and we weren't able to play our last two games, when the Lighning were playing their best soccer. Look for many of these girls to be playing high school soccer next year and beyond.
