Our Mission

WSYSC is a non profit 501c3 organization of volunteers that strives to provide an opportunity for FUN and CHALLENGING competitive soccer for BOYS AND GIRLS AGES 7-14 from the town of West Springfield, Massachusetts.    Specifically

1)        A place to learn the value of sportsmanship and teamwork

2)        A Supportive, learning atmosphere with quality coaches

3)        An opportunity to play competitive soccer against other towns in the Western Massachusetts area.

WSYSC fields over 20 teams of players who are in the 2nd thru 8th grades in the largest town travel league in Western Masssachusetts:  The Roots Soccer League.   All members of WSYSC  are also members of US Club Soccer - a national organization of youth and adult soccer players who l foster the growth and development of soccer clubs throughout the United States.

We are managed by a volunteer Board of Directors , guided by our Club Bylaws established back in 2011.  See here for rules of how our club operates.

Our Soccer Training Philosophy

We teach a POSSESSION based soccer game. - We want players to control first then pass – to increase the certainty of successful passing connections and keeping the ball from the opponent.

We instruct our players to use the ENTIRE FIELD  In particular we use the entire width of the field… all the way to the sidelines

We instruct our players in both OFFENSIVE and DEFENSIVE tactics

We develop the Athleticism in our players – meaning Player Balance on the field and Lateral Movement Ability, Fitness, Speed, and Desiire

Besides the opportunity to play on teams in the Roots Soccer League, we manage Winter Skill Sessions for Ages 6-13, One-time clinic opportunities, and also we coordinate with the High School Soccer program and booster club for opportunities to be mentored by our older high school players.

As a result of our community supporting soccer development, our High School programs have won 5 Western Mass Championships and 2 State Championships since 2013.  Players transition from 8th grade into Summer Soccer Leagues and high school teams and have found a high level of success.
